Letter to the Giftee (sadnesslytu)
Hey! Firstly, I hope I haven't massively misinterpreted your prompt.. that would be very awkward.
Secondly the game is not fully complete, as I have stated before. There is some missing art, there are no sound effects, and there are not that many powerups, but the gameplay loop is complete (though there is more I wanted to do with the gameplay). I do want to work on finishing it in the future, there were many things that I wanted to do with this game that I wasn't able to do because of time constraints. But that's my bad, I got very lazy in the middle of the jam (as is usual whenever I'm working on a larger project).
As you may have noticed, I did change the theme slightly. Instead of a minigun, I centered the theme around this 'rogue Angel' which is fighting through hordes of demons. I know, this doesn't really make a lot of sense (the name) because originally, what I had planned was that this Angel would go through 3 floors/stages, starting in Heaven, then going down to Earth, and finally to Hell to execute the Demon King. This is one of the gameplay aspects which was cut due to time constraints...
I also wanted to do a lot more with the recoil aspect, as your prompt specified using minigun knockback to navigate/move. With this original plan, I thought of having each stage get harder by having their own set of obstacles that the player would have to navigate through. For example, the Hell stage would have falling Meteors which would force the player to navigate precisely while avoiding both meteors and enemies.
Finally, I hope you enjoy the game! Again, I hope I haven't massively misinterpreted your prompt, and haven't delivered a completely different game that what you were asking for. I never asked too many questions to you about it; I wanted the result to be a pleasant surprise so I hope that hasn't backfired on me.
:)
